President Nicusor Dan said Romania’s best bet to end a lengthy political crisis is a minority government which Parliament agrees to beforehand.
Dan said he had consultations with the parliamentary parties and groups on Tuesday to identify a solution to put an end to a seven-week political crisis.
Parliament failed to approve his previous pick as prime minister and his first option to replace Ilie Bolojan who was ousted in a no-confidence vote last month, dropped out saying he couldn’t muster the votes.
In a post on X, the Romanian president said: “The option that seems to be taking shape is that of a minority political government, which would rely on a pre-agreed support among political parties.”
“I therefore invite the parliamentary parties to begin discussions for signing this parliamentary agreement and, subsequently, to make proposals to me for the formula of a minority government.”
“The entire process must unfold at an accelerated pace, as it is urgent to install a functional and stable government.”
