Romanian striker Adrian Mutu included in Fiorentina Hall of Fame

Former Romanian striker and  captain Adrian Mutu has been inducted into Italian club AC Fiorentina’s Hall of Fame in recognition of his impact on the team and his special bond with the supporters.

Mutu said he was honored by the nomination

Mutu, 45, who played for Fiorentina between 2006 and 2011, scored 69 goals in 143 games in and was an iconic figure for the Tuscan club.

At Tuesday night’s ceremony, held at the Fiorentina Museum, Mutu said on Instagram: “I’m honored, it’s an award I’m proud of. When you play you don’t realize what you can leave behind, only in such moments do you realize that in reality you have left something in the heart of a city and, especially, in the hearts of the viola supporters.”

The 2024 class of the Fiorentina Hall of Fame also included other legendary players of the club, such as Maurilio Prini, Italian champion with Fiorentina in the 1955-56 season, Bernardo Rogora, champion in 1968-69, and Bruno Beatrice, winner of the Italian Cup in 1974-75.

Mutu remains one of the most talented Romanian footballers of recent decades, known both for his technical ability on the field and a controversial career. As a striker, he was a versatile player, capable of playing as a striker and a midfielder.

His career began at FC Argeș, but took off after his transfer to Dinamo Bucharest, where he attracted the attention Europe’s big clubs. He played for top European teams such as Parma, Chelsea and Juventus, and was appreciated for his dribbling, precise free kicks andv vision on pitch.

Throughout his career, Mutu was often courted controversy, due to his colorful love life and doping issues, but he remained popular among Romanian fans.
