Romania’s transport minister Lucian Bode has tested positive for coronavirus and is recovering at home.
He is the second minister in the government of Ludovic Orban to contract the virus.
The minister said he was tested during a regular checkup and he had no symptoms and was self-isolating at home.
“From the moment I learned the result of the test, I followed all the required steps. I am currently isolating at home; I feel fine; I don’t have specific symptoms, and I trust all will be well in the end. I wish everyone good health!” the minister, 46, wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
Earlier Wednesday, the minister Bode met U.S. Ambassador to Romania Adrian Zuckerman and posted a message and a photo of the pair both wearing masks.
Mr. Bode is the second minister to test positive for Covid-19, after Economy Minister Virgil Popescu announced a positive test ahead of a visit to Israel with the prime minister.
His first test came out negative, but on Sunday, the minister started to have flu symptoms, and he repeated the test, which came out positive.
Romania posted a record 8,651 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday and 146 deaths.
