The Culture Ministry will no longer have to issue a permit
The Bucharest City Hall is launching a project to clean up graffiti on buildings in the capital.
For owners who sign up for the program, the city hall will cover 80% of the costs of cleaning the facades, while owners or co-owners will be obliged to pay the rest, or risk a fine.
Raluca Turcan, a Liberal Party lawmaker, introduced a bill to simplify the process of issuing the permits for cleaning up historical monuments.
The bill needs to be approved by Parliament which is currently in recess until September.
Under the bill, if a historical building is defaced by graffiti but the building itself is not damaged approval will no longer be needed from the Culture Ministry to clean it up. City authorities, however, will need to be notified.
