Romanian weightlifter Mihaela Cambei won one gold and two silver medals in the 53 kg category on Sunday at the European Weightlifting Championships.
The Paris Olympic silver medalist took gold in the snatch with 95 kg, after missing her second attempt at 93 kg. She also won the silver medal in the clean and jerk with 114 kg (after failing at 117 kg), and the silver medal in the total with 209 kg.
Belgium’s Nina Sterckx won silver in the snatch (94 kg) and gold in the clean and jerk (116 kg) as well as in the total (210 kg).
Alexia Sipos finished fourth in the snatch with 81 kg, ranked tenth in the clean and jerk with 98 kg, and ranked fifth overall with a total of 179 kg.
In the 48 kg category, Ioana Madalina Miron finished sixth in the snatch with 73 kg, was twelfth in the clean and jerk with 85 kg, and placed ninth overall with a total of 158 kg.
Romania has 15 athletes, eight men and seven women, taking part in the European Championships in Georgia.
At the previous European Championships in Chisinau, Moldova, last year, the Romanian team won 11 medals: four gold, three silver, and four bronze.
