Ten people were injured on Tuesday after a Romanian bus had a head-on collision with a Turkish truck in northern Bulgaria.
The incident occurred at midday on the road from Ruse-Byala south of the Danube which marks the border between Bulgaria and Romania.
Bulgarian emergency services were alerted to the accident at 12.20 pm and dispatched police, fire, and rescue teams to the scene located between the village of Volovo village and the town of Borovo.
Preliminary reports indicate the Romanian bus was being driven by a 36-year-old driver in the direction of Byala or Sofia.
The bus veered left and smashed into a Turkish truck helmed driven by a 50-year-old driver who was traveling in the opposite direction toward Ruse.
Following the collision, the bus swerved right nd remained on its side of the road. The driver and passengers sustained injuries. Three ambulances transported the injured to Ruse hospital. Other passengers received on-site medical evaluation, suffering minor injuries mostly from shattered glass.
Police have re-routed traffic and vehicles traveling from Ruse to Byala must pass through Obretenik and Byala, while Tarnovo-bound freight vehicles have been diverted to the road leading to the “Lukoil” gas station in Byala.
Light traffic has been rerouted via Borovo, Batishnitsa, and back to Ruse.
