The US has given Europe a clear deadline to take over NATO defense: 2027

Pentagon officials have stated that the United States expects Europe to take over the majority of NATO’s conventional defense capabilities, from intelligence to missiles, by 2027.

The demand has been confirmed by five sources after a Pentagon meeting.

Should Europe not meet the strides to set up by 2027, the US threatens to stop participating in some NATO defense coordination mechanisms (providing non-nuclear assets such as troops, weapons, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance), informs an anonymous source.

The source of this decision has not been made clear: we do not know if it is the fruit of the Trump administration, or a decision made by Pentagon officials themselves, regardless of publicly voiced Democrat disapproval towards the current government’s threat to cut off Ukraine.

The White House has not yet commented.

A NATO official responded by informing that Europe has already taken on more responsibility for conventional defense.

Europe itself has not expressed being opposed to stepping up to the channel, but its own target of self-defense is 2030, not 2027.

However, production is currently in backlog across the board for military equipment.

Moreover, the US would like Europe to purchase material made in the US, but delivery would be a years’-long process.

Peace talks seem fruitless once again, as Putin violently pushes for the Donbas
