The alert further advises individuals to exercise increased caution near religious facilities during the abovementioned period. US Embassy officials did not immediately provide additional information regarding the threats.
Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security presence near religious facilities in Romania over the coming days. Officials may close roads near some places of worship on short notice; consequent transport disruptions are possible.
It advised U.S. nationals to exercise increased caution and consider avoiding religious institutions during the period; to keep a low profile; to be aware of your surroundings and to review their personal security plans.
The Interior Ministry said there would be extra staff this weekend to ensure public safety.
“Thus, the policemen, gendarmes, border guards, together with institutional partners, will be on the street, special attention being paid to the areas where religious ceremonies are held, places of worship and places with large audiences, for the safety of all citizens,” a statement said.
Romania’s Intelligence Service (SRI) spokesman, Ovidiu Marincea, said the agency had received no information requiring it to raise the terrorist alert level.
