Alison Mutler and Laurentiu Mihu of Universul.net will host a webinar on Tuesday May 3 on what it’s like to report from a totalitarian state.

The two journalists will be joined by Chris Stephen, a seasoned war reporter who was the Guardian’s correspondent in Romania in the early 1990s.  Mr. Stephen is the author of „Judgement Day: The Trial of Slobodan Milosevic.”

Mr Mihu, editor-in-chief of Universul.net, recently created a „Russian Press” (Presa rusa) section to inform readers directly from Russian publications about the reality in Russia after it launched its invasion of Ukraine.

„I think that this discussion on reporting from an authoritarian state is more timely and relevant than ever,” said Ms Mutler, who covered the 1989 Romanian revolution for Britain’s ITN network. She also reported from communist Romania and Moldova when it was part of the Soviet Union.

The webinar which is open to  journalists and anyone interested in the topic runs from 4 pm to 5pm EET on Tuesday. This event will be held on Zoom and in English. Participants can  register on this link.

May 3 is World Press Freedom Day. The event will be livestreamed on Facebook.

The Ratiu Forum in partnership with the London School of Economics has hosted a number of journalism webinars in the past two years on topics such as: the importance of sources and website traffic and income.
