Alexandra Căpitănescu a rock singer will represent Romania at Eurovision 2026 with her song “Choke Me”. This year’s contest takes place in Vienna in May.
“I want my music to reach people,” the 21-year-old artist said after she was picked.

Romania will enter the international competition on May 14, in the second semi-final
On January 12, a draw was in Vienna held to divide participating countries into two semifinals.
Headlined “United by Music”, the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will take place in Vienna, with the semi-finals on May 12 and 14 and the final on May 16.
It will be the 64th edition of the song contest and Romania is one of 34 countries taking part. Others are: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and Great Britain. Austria, JJ, with the song “Wasted Love”.
Eurovision is organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the largest association of public television in Europe. The first edition took place in 1956, in Lugano, Switzerland. The show has become one of the longest-running and most watched television programs in the world.
Among the artists who have climbed the Eurovision stage over the years are: ABBA, Julio Iglesias, Celine Dion, Johnny Logan.The Romanian Television, a member of the EBU, is the organizer of the National Selection and participates in the European competition since 1993.Romania’s best performances at this contest were: twice the third place (Luminiţa Anghel & Sistem – Kiev, 2005; Paula Seling and Ovi – Oslo, 2010) and once the fourth place (Mihai Trăistariu – Athens, 2006).
