VIDEO | Two teens detained in savage ax killing of Romanian teenager

Two 15-year-old teenagers have been detained over the savage killing of a 15-year-old boy who was killed with an axe before his body was set on fire and buried.

The third participant is 13 years old and not criminally responsible, prosecutors said. A 21-year-old man is also being questioned as a witness.

The body of the 15-year-old boy who went missing from home earlier this month was found buried behind the house of a schoolmate. A shovel was found nearby.

The youngsters are suspected of killing him in cold blood and trying to evade justice by burying the body.

Police who were looking for the boy suspected something bad had happened to him when they found his wallet and house keys thrown into a bush, on a field, in a locality 30 kilometers from the southwestern city of Timisoara. The investigation then led them to the macabre discovery.

From schoolmates to killers

The suspects who  were schoolmates of the victim are suspected of killing him on Monday evening and then taking his body with a wheelbarrow to be buried. To apparently justify the blood at the scene, they sacrificed a chicken and left it at the scene of the crime.

“And to dig a hole and put it here. That’s the mind of a criminal,” a local resident was quoted as saying.

The police found the scooter and ATV of the minor in the yard of a suspect. A key witness who could also turn into a defendant is a 21-year-old who witnessed the gruesome scenes without intervening. Forensic scientists are now piecing together the last days of the boy’s life to find out the reason for the murder.

“He was always quite academically smart and also financially he was quite well positioned compared to other children. He even helped people who were less well off, giving someone a pizza or some sneakers,” said Beatrice Maguran, the deputy director of Timiș educational authority.
