After his passing at the age of 88, French icon Alain Delon will be laid to rest with his beloved dogs.

As per his wishes, Delon will be buried on the grounds of his chateau in Douchy, Loiret, in a cemetery he made for his dogs – over 50 of them – over the years.

Dogs also appear in Delon’s movies – film critics note that they add a note of humanity to taciturn bad-boy personas.

Alain Delon was a supporter of his friend Brigitte Bardot’s battle for the rights of animals, and once sent a helicopter to rescue a kitten whose paws had been cut off.

Before his death, Delon even declared that his last dog, Loubo, would be euthanized in his arms when he died – a declaration which drew controversy.

“My whole life is there, in the graves of my dogs”, Delon mused in an interview.

The funeral will be private.
