Romanians’ favorite car, the BMW, has celebrated 30 years since it officially arrived in the country.
The German automaker dealership was founded in 1994, five years after the collapse of communism by Romanian entrepreneur Michael Schmidt who has seen his business expand exponentially across the country as the economy has flourished.
Romanian sporting legends Gheorghe Hagi and Simona Halep joined a celebration party on Nov. 15 along with Mr. Schmidt, his wife Veronica, BMW staff and others.
Romanian artist Smiley sang live for the sparkling bash that included a light show and banquet for guests.
Automobile Bavaria is the largest BMW dealer network in Central and Eastern Europe reflecting Mr. Schmidt’s business flair and acumen and Romanians’ love of BMWs.
It has sold more than 50,000 cars in the past 30 years and the luxury BMW X5 is the most-sold model.
