Bomb kills chemical weapons boss in Moscow

Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who was chief of Russia’s Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops, was assassinated outside an apartment building, along with his assistant. A bomb was hidden in an electric scooter, report Russian investigators.

Photos on Russian Telegram channels showed a shattered building entrance littered with rubble — and two bodies lying in bloody snow.

This happened one day after Kirillov attended a meeting with Russia’s ministry of defence.

Law enforcement says this will be a terrorism case.

Russia denies Ukraine’s claims that it uses chemical weapons on the battlefield.

Kirillov, who was married and has two children, sometimes accused Ukraine of violating nuclear safety protocols on Russian television.

Russia’s radioactive, chemical and biological defence troops (RKhBZ) which Kirillov commanded, are special forces operating under conditions of radioactive, chemical and biological contamination.

They are  tasked with protecting ground forces operating in extreme conditions.

Russia also says that Ukraine has committed multiple targeted assassinations on its citizens.
