Donald Trump has appointed Darryl Nirenberg as the United States’ ambassador to Romania.
A self-made man, Nirenberg has been a lawyer in Washington for decades.
He is currently at Steptoe LLP law firm, where he specializes in the “promotion and protect of clients’ interests before US Congress, federal employees and the White House”.
Nirenberg, working 14 years in Senate, was chief of staff for late Republican Senator Jesse Helms, a conservative who died in 2008.
He was also counsel for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Reportedly, he represented notoriously corrupt Belarusian mogul Vladimir Peftiev in 2022 — the year of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine —, who is associated with Belarusian president Lukashenko.
Trump has praised Nirenberg a tireless supporter of America First.
Presidential runner-up George Simion has also praised him as being “a man with a backbone”.
He has been a lawmaker involved in the following acts: the National Defense Authorization Act, the Inflation Reduction Act), Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and the Affordable Care Act.
