Electric bus joins public transport fleet in the western city of Oradea.

The MAN Lion’s City electric bus is has moved into the city of Oradea in western Romania.

It is the first electric bus in the city and a step in the journey from polluting vehicles to zero-emissions transport.

It’s been included in the public transport fleet to see how viable it is in real-time traffic.

“The future of urban mobility of electric.  We want to support transport operators to go emissions free. Our partner MHS Truck & Bus offers a complete concept which includes recommendations for electromobility and personalized solutions,” said Heinz Kiess, senior manager, Head of Product Marketing Bus, MAN Truck & Bus SE on Monday.

In recent months, 100% electric buses which are battery-operatedhave been tested out in a number of European cities.

Urban traffic

“ MAN Lion’s City E has shown it can cope with urban traffic and can easily be integrated into existing operations,” Kiess said. There are plans to test the buses in other towns in western Romania.

„We’re glad that MAN Lion’s City E,  the completely electric bus is being tested in Romania, in real-time traffic like in other towns across Europe. We are sure that this bus will be viable and efficient,”  said Claudia Iordache, CEO of MHS Truck & Bus which imports MAN buses.

MAN is demoing the Lion’s City E model which is 12 meters long, and has a battery system containing six units and a capacity of 480 kWh, three electric doors, of which two are automatic. It has LED headlights.

MAN City Advanced

It has seating for 35 passengers in the MAN City Advanced, space for people with disabilities, and room for pushchairs and prams.

It also has air conditioning and heating. The driver’s seat has heating and air conditioning controls and a rear view camera with a 6.5 inch monitor.

MAN plans to move its buses into the country’s largest_ and most polluted_ cities.

MAN Lion’s City E was tested this spring  Bucharest, Brasov, Sibiu, Cluj and Timisoara.
