For fifth day in a row, coronavirus cases drop to below 200 in Romania

Romanian authorities reported 198 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, the fifth day in a row when there have been fewer than 200 cases.

The Strategic Communication Group said the total number of coronavirus cases in Romania has now risen to 17,585.

By Thursday evening, the number of reported deaths had risen to 1,156. Nine people succumbed to the virus during the day.

The last time when the number of daily cases exceeded 200 was Sunday when there were 267 cases.  Even before that, numbers were diminishing.

There are currently 203 patients being treated for their symptoms in intensive care.

More than 10,500 people have recovered since the outbreak in March.

The number of people in institutionalized quarantine dipped to 9,800 with almost 40,000 people in seld-isolation at home under medical supervision.

A total of  342, 500 tests have been carried out so far.

More than 3,000 Romanians have tested positive for coronavirus outside Romania, including 1,700 from Italy. Some 105 Romanians have succumbed to the virus, 35 in the UK and 31 in Italy.
