Foreigners attempt to enter Schengen Zone via Romania

Police at the western Nadlac I and Nadlac II border crossing points in Romania caught over 70 migrants of various nationalities who attempted to illegally cross the border into the Schengen Area hidden in two long haul trucks.

The first group was discovered at the Nadlac I crossing point, when police officers heard noises coming from a truck registered in Romania and driven by a 23-year-old Romanian citizen. When they opened the cargo compartment, they found 40 foreigners hiding inside. They were all taken to the precincts for investigations that determined that they are aged between 21 and 43, and that 22 of them are Bangladeshis, 11 Pakistanis, four are from Egypt, two from India and one from Ghana. 34 of these individuals entered Romania legally, based on personal documents, and six are asylum seekers, the Arad Border Police informed.

Another group of 31 tentative illegal border crossers, ages 20 to 43, was found at Nadlac II, during clearance procedures for a truck transporting refrigerators to France. Both drivers are being investigated for migrant trafficking.
