Nationalist George Simion, and centrist Bucharest mayor Nicusor Dan are neck and neck a poll released five days ahead of the presidential runoff shows.
According to the AtlasIntel opinion poll conducted for HotNews, each candidate sored 48.2% of voters’ options in the May 18 second round.
One percent of participants in the survey said they would would cancel their vote, and another 2.6% say they “don’t know” who they will opt for.
The poll does not take Romania’s diaspora into account which would shift the figures in Simion’s favor.
George Simion, a Euroskeptic who won about 41% of the votes in the first round came first, followed by Dan who scored 21%.
The AtlasIntel survey was conducted between May 9-12, 2025 on a sample of 3,995 respondents, using the random digital recruitment method, has the Romanian electorate and a margin of error of ±2 percentage points at a confidence level of 95%.
