A 35-year-old man died upon being sucked into the engine of a passenger jet on the runway of Milano Bergamo Airport.
This led to the immediate suspension of all flights from said airport.
The tragedy occurred just as Volotea flight V73511 towards Asturias was preparing for takeoff.
The man is known not to have been a passenger or working with the airpot in any way, and is said to have entered illegally by driving against traffic into the airport and running into the terminal.
After he opened a security door into the airport apron as it was completing pushback, police chased him across the tarmac but could not stop him from running into the engine and being…torn to pieces.
“This is a tragedy no one should ever witness,” one airport worker said. “It was over in seconds, but the impact will last for years.”
Witnesses were offered immediate psychological support.Video footage after the fact shows emergency vehicles, policemen and firefighters hovering around.
In May 2025, an an airport employee in Amsterdam lost his life intentionally climbed into a plane’s engine during takeoff.
