U.S. Vice President JD Vance criticized Romania for cancelling last year’s presidential election based on the “flimsy suspicions of an intelligence agency and enormous pressure from its continental neighbors.”

Vance’s comments made Friday at the Munich Security Conference in which he questioned the validity of  annulling the country’s presidential election after accusations of Russian meddling stand in stark contrast to the previous U.S. administration which supported the invalidation.

Washington then said: “We note the Romanian Constitutional Court’s decision today (December 6) with respect to Romania’s presidential elections. The United States reaffirms our confidence in Romania’s democratic institutions and processes, including investigations into foreign malign influence.”

Matthew Miller, U.S State Department spokesman said Washington  stood “with the Romanian people as they face an unprecedented situation regarding the integrity of their elections. Romanians must have confidence that their elections reflect the democratic will of the Romanian people and are free of foreign malign influence aimed at undermining the fairness of their elections.”

The statement said the integrity of Romania’s elections was paramount for Romanians’ hard-earned democracy.

“It is the choice of the Romanian people whom they elect. No other country or foreign actor has that right.

JD Vance is wrong. Clear evidence that Russia meddled in Romania’s presidential election
