MAE: 183 Romanians to be repatriated from Qatar on Riyadh-Bucharest flight

Romania’s Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday, the repatriation of 183 Romanians from Qatar, through an assisted repatriation flight from Riyadh-Bucharest.

Everyone was transferred by road from Doha to Riyadh route on four buses accompanied by a consular team from the Doha diplomatic mission.

The ground transfer was provided by the ministry and was free. The charter flight was organized by the ministry’s Crisis Cell, with private operators, to ensure prices were accessible to as many people as possible.

“Continuing (our) efforts to support the safe return of Romanian citizens affected by the security situation in the Middle East an assisted repatriation flight will land on March 8 in Bucharest, a charter, for 183 Romanian citizens,” the Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday afternoon.

The Romanians have been in Qatar since the conflict started on February 28.

With the support of the MFA Crisis Cell and the Romanian Embassy in Doha, they were transferred by road on the Doha-Riyadh route, with 4 coaches accompanied by a consular team from the diplomatic mission in Doha.

“The convoy was taken over the Saudi Arabia border by a team of the Romanian Embassy in Riyadh for the border crossing procedures and the accelerated obtaining of the visa, for the cases that required it. At the same time, the team of the Romanian Embassy in Riyadh ensured the group’s assistance at the airport and facilitated the procedure of boarding the aircraft,” the MAE also said.

“In collaboration with the other embassies in the region, the ministry continues to inform each other on national repatriation measures., so that when places are available, mutual access is possible In this regard, six citizens from other states were also transferred, along with Romanian citizens”.

The Foreign Ministry thanks the Foreign Ministries of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar for their good cooperation in organizing this assisted repatriation flight,” the ministry added.

According to the Foreign Ministry, some 1,500 Romanians have  left the region through assisted repatriation flights, evacuation flights through the European Civil Protection Mechanism or flights facilitated by the ministry since the conflict began.

An increased number of commercial flights to Romania is planned, as well as evacuation flights for vulnerable cases.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has in its attention, from the citizens’ registrations, 400 such cases.

“The MAE reiterates the recommendation that those who have the option for commercial flights opt for this plan to return to the country,” the MAE officials show.
