“Humanity needs peace and hope,” the Romanian Ambassador to the Holy See, George Bologan said, after meeting Pope Leo XIV for the traditional exchange of greetings at the beginning of the year.

“On this occasion, the pope “conveyed to the Romanian people his apostolic or papal blessing and good wishes,” Ambassador Bologan said.

The Romanian editorial office Vatican News – Vatican Radio asked the Romanian diplomat for his impressions of the Sovereign Pontiff’s extensive speech.

“The diplomacy of the Holy See, with its millenary tradition and with an extraordinary capacity to scrutinize the course of the world, to interpret the spirit of the age in which we live, always proposes to us a change, in the sense of ‘metanoia’, a change of the world at the urging of Christ”: the Romanian ambassador to the Holy See George Bologan told Vatican News – Vatican Radio on Friday after he took part in the traditional meeting of the Sovereign Pontiff at the beginning of the year with the members of the Diplomatic Corps.

According to the Romanian diplomat, Pope Leo XIV addressed a “dense, inspired and, at times, prophetic speech,” giving “a unique x-ray of the dynamics of the world in which we find ourselves, from multiple crises to their effects,” according to Fr. Adrian Danca, coordinator of Radio Vatican’s Romanian section.

Ambassador Bologan shared his first impressions after the Pope’s speech with Vatican Radio listeners.

The resonance that the Pope’s speech has for a representative of Romanian diplomacy, the signs of hope mentioned by the Sovereign Pontiff in the tense context of today’s world, but also the way in which the personal meeting at the end of the meeting went, we find out here from the Romanian Ambassador to the Holy See, George Bologan.

An apostolic blessing is a special Catholic blessing from the Pope for significant occasions. It signifies the Pope’s spiritual closeness and can also be granted by bishops or priests in specific situations, like for the dying, and is a powerful means of grace.
