Romanian civil society launches immune Romania to combat disinformation

Immune Romania, dedicated to detecting and combating information manipulation and external interference in the digital space was launched on Wednesday at the Cotroceni presidential palace.

The launch took place within the “Rapid Response – European Summit for Strengthening Resilience to Disinformation”, organized under the High Patronage of the President of Romania, in the presence of Romanian President Nicușor Dan.

In a context marked by the intensification of hybrid threats and disinformation campaigns, the initiative responds to the need for a rapid, coordinated and independent mechanism for monitoring, analysis and response, strengthening democratic resilience and society’s capacity to respond effectively to information manipulation, a press release said.

“There is a correlation between trust within a society and the prosperity of that society. And disinformation attacks exactly there, at the level of trust within a society. We are not talking about a succession of ad hoc operations. Today, disinformation is coordinated, it is on multiple levels and is based on technology. Therefore, the response to it must be equally coordinated. Institutions must actively communicate and be able to respond at the pace at which different segments of the public expect to receive a response. We must focus on the educational factor in the area of media and digital education, because it is a matter of national security,” Dan said.

Immune Romania is an independent, apolitical and ethical initiative, specialized in preventing and countering disinformation that polarizes society, in order to prevent irreversible effects on democracy, public trust and societal security.
