Romanian parents more inclined to vaccinate their children against HPV following the pandemic

A Europe-wide Ipsos study shows that parents’ opinions on vaccinating their children have changed after the coronavirus pandemic. 7000 Romanian parents were included in the study.

The main conclusions of the study are:

  • 69% of Romanian parents participating in the study say they feel more informed about vaccination after the COVID-19 pandemic;
  • 91% of Romanian parents say they are more willing to ask the doctor on their own initiative about vaccines that can protect their children and give more importance to vaccinating their child;
  • 85% say they feel more informed about vaccinating their child as a result of the pandemic, and 87% are more willing, after the pandemic, to vaccinate their child for conditions other than COVID-19;
  • 77% of Romanian parents participating in the study have heard of the HPV virus, and 73% of them know that HPV vaccination helps prevent certain types of cancer;
  • 93% of Romanian parents participating in the study totally or partially agree with the statement that prevention is the most effective way to protect their children from HPV infection;
  • 73% of Romanian parents participating in the study are aware that HPV vaccination can prevent the occurrence of certain types of cancer;
  • 23% of Romanian parents surveyed said they had already vaccinated their children against HPV infection, and 32% said they would;
  • 84% believe that HPV infection can be prevented in both girls and boys;
  • More than a quarter of European parents have no knowledge of HPV;
  • One in five parents in Europe who have heard of HPV is unaware that HPV can cause cancer other than cervical cancer.
