Romania’s ruling coalition sets presidential dates: May 4, May 18

Romania has set the dates for its presidential election after the Constitutional Court annulled the November presidential election in response to declassified data pointing to “hybrid attacks” from Russia on the election process.

Repeat presidential elections will be held on May 4 with an expected runoff on May 14, the ruling coalition decided on Wednesday.

Some candidates have already announced their bid including Bucharest mayor Nicusor Dan. The ruling coalition t confirmed its candidate as Crin Antonescu, who at the weekend said he was ready to drop out. In the meantime, Klaus Iohannis remains president as per the constiution.
