Romanian tennis star Simona Halep on Wednesday married her long-time boyfriend Toni Iuruc in a civil ceremony in Constanta, her hometown on the Black Sea.

The WTA no. 13 tied the knot two weeks before her  30th birthday. Her new husband is a 42-year-old wealthy Romanian businessman according to local media reports.

The couple were first seen after she won Wimbledon in 2019. They have been discreet about their courtship, rarely appearing in the public eye. T

After years of rumors, the upcoming wedding was only announced last week by 1970s tennis champion Ilie Nastase who said he’d been invited.

Ms Halep confirmed the reports when she returned from the US Open after losing in the fourth round.

“It’s a different kind of excitement than winning a Grand Slam. It’s my private life, while tennis is tennis,” the 29-year-old said on Sept. 8.

The pair apparently got engaged in June in Romania as the tennis player was recovering from a calf injury.

It is a first marriage for Ms Halep and a third for Mr Iuruc.
