Romania’s 2025 presidential election will be held again after the Constitutional Court of Romania decided to annul the results of the first round of elections held in late November, as a response to declassified data pointing to “hybrid attacks” during the election process.

Romania will hold repeat presidential elections on March 23 and April 6, 2025.

Candidates have been announced, but one (Crin Antonescu on behalf of PSD) already dropped out last night, so another recalibration is due.

In the meantime, Klaus Iohannis remains president, and also remains characteristically laconic.

Călin Georgescu, surprise right-wing candidate around whose TikTok promotion the entire whirlwind began, announced in a message on X that he will appeal the annulment of the Romanian presidential elections before the European Court of Human Rights.
