Some 5,000 employees at the Renault-Dacia automobile manufacturing plant in southern Romania will protest against labor laws and soaring energy bills.

The Dacia trade union said its members were protesting against government which scrapped proposed modifications to the labor law, such as the right to emergency leave for personal and family problems and another that would make it ban employers from laying off staff during paternity or maternity leave.

Trade union members are also angry about a lack of subsidies for energy bills, the union said.

The protest will take place at lunchtime Thursday the union leadquarters in Mioveni where Dacia has its plant.
