The Transylvanian Saxons brought their music to Bucharest’s street festival this weekend.
Bucharest laid on a special children’s day program from May 30-31 as part of this weekend’s “Open Streets – Bucharest”. The Haferland Festival took part for the first time.
This year’s Haferland that celebrates Transylvanian Saxon’s traditions and place in Romania’s history will take place on August 6-9 across ten villages in Transylvania where the Transylvanian Saxons first settled in the 12th century,
The 14th edition takes place under the patronage of Nadia Comaneci, the Romanian gymnast who scored the word;s first perfect 10 50 years ago, at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.
This weekend’s Open Streets festival in Bucharest is featuring various events dedicated to children. The event transforms the city’s Calea Victoriei into a space for play, creativity and outdoor shows ahead of International Children’s Day on June 1.
Calea Victoriei, one of the busiest arteries of the capital, closes to traffic and become a pedestrian thoroughfare during summer weekends.
This weekend features painting workshops, creative recycling, balloon modeling, improvisation and fun science experiments. Children will also be able to discover the world of reptiles through activities supported by Reptiland, but also essential safety rules during an interactive workshop organized by the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations “Dealul Spirii” Bucharest-Ilfov.
There was also Saxon-style wood painting workshops, decorating bags and bookmarks, activities inspired by the Haferland Week Festival,
There will be parades to complement the festive atmosphere and a performance by the Ion Creangă Theater and brass band music will be brought by the Jugendblaskapelle Kronstadt.
