The hard-right surprise winner of Romania’s first-round of presidential elections Calin Georgescu has said he would abolish political parties if he came to power, quoting a Romanian fascist sympathizer.
“Political parties are horses in the golden chariot of the Romanian people. There will be no more political parties in this country. None! No political party! Because the ancestors are alive,” he said in April 2024. He said the world globalist system was in its final death throes in the address.
Following his surprise win of the first-round of presidential elections, Constanta 100% publication asked Mr. Georgescu how he would ban political parties and what would replace them.
Here is what his office said:
“The quote about “political parties being horses in the golden chariot of Romanian history; when they become slaughterhouses, the Romanian people send them to the slaughterhouse” comes from philosopher and publicist Petre Țuțea, a Legionnaire sympathizer and economy ministry official in a 1940 fascist government.
“It is a metaphor that denounces the manipulation and corruption that can accompany the political system, but also the relationship between politicians and the Romanian people: when political parties lose their purpose or abuse their role, the people reject them,” the statement said.
His office said that “Mr. Călin Georgescu will govern Romania in strict compliance with the Constitution and the principles of the rule of law. Its governance will be transparent and accountable, focused on protecting citizens’ rights and promoting a climate of social and economic equity.”
“As for political parties, they will work with all political forces that share the fundamental principles of democracy, without compromising on corruption or personal interests. Its objective is to overcome political divisions and build a united Romania, based on clear principles and correct decisions, in the interest of all citizens,” the statement said.
Romania established a legionary government on September 6, 1940, when Petre Țuțea became a full member:
Țuțea was secretary general of the Ministry of National Economy at the proposal of Horia Sima, a Romanian fascist politician, the second and last commander of the Iron Guard, also known as the Archangel Michael Legion or the Legionary Movement.
