Romanian figure skater Julia Sauter has qualified for the free program in the women’s figure skating event at the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games.

With 63.13 points, Julia achieved the best result of her career in the short program.

At 28 years old, the Romanian skater entered the short program and qualified for the free program, scheduled for Thursday evening. “Today, the short program seemed to me exactly like training at home. I got on the ice and I said to myself, “Okay, do exactly what you do in training – and maybe even a little more.” But the training here was exactly the same. This morning, I already felt very prepared. In fact, I had to refrain and focus on the present instead of living in the future.

When I landed on Lutz-toe loop, I thought, “Wow, that was really, really good.” I had a brief memory of the European Championships. But we trained so well that the loop is solid again. I was just glad to be here. Of course, there was some pressure, because we knew that the competition here was very strong. But I’ve kept telling myself that I don’t identify with whether or not I make it to the final, because the road to this point has been very hard — and that road is what really matters. The only thing was that I felt very ready and I really wanted to prove it. And now, finally, it worked. This season, the short program has always been a little difficult for me. And now it worked at the most important competition.”, said Julia, according to Golden Skate.

It was her dream to take part in the Olympics

“Honestly, it all started with getting the Olympic equipment. You prepare for so long, and when you try to stay in the present and take the necessary steps to get here, you don’t always think too much about the future. But then the equipment arrived, we traveled here for the first time, it was the opening ceremony – there was already so much positive energy. What really impresses me is the way everything works behind the scenes. It’s the only time I can live this experience and I really try to enjoy the time I spend here. Today, my husband and my mother were in the arena, and that was very special,” Sauter said.
