I was honored to receive a vote of confidence and be appointed Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Romania, and so I begin a new chapter of commitment and responsibility at a professional and institutional level.
In my professional career of over 25 years in academia and science, I have focused on defining areas in the field of economic policies, combined with public dignity in my role as the Presidential Advisor on economic issues since December 2014.
I will take continue with the public dignity of the first and second terms of the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, as well as more than 15 years in the public, institutional and decision-making space in the field of public policies where I will work in the coming years. I will use it to fulfill the high, professional and ethical standards that the position of Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Romania demands..
As an economist, I hold center right views because I believe development and prosperity naturally correspond to the market economy, economic freedom and entrepreneurship, competitiveness and investment, in a context of sound policies.
In this regard, I recall the economic policy messages, sent on behalf of the President of Romania or as a representative of the Presidential Administration, regarding the need for Romania to change its economic model of development in sustainable directions.
We have shown, over years which were dominated by pro-cyclical policies, why Romania’s economic growth should not be based primarily on consumption, but on investments, especially on investments from European funds. After a number of years and some changes of perspective at the governmental level, the key factor in Romania’s modernization is represented today by investments from European funds.
Romania has reached a threshold of economic maturity that allows us to make the leap to a new level of ambition and vision, although the current economic context is not without risks and vulnerabilities. Persistent imbalances have been amplified by successive , large and overlapping crises, and uncertainties associated with external factors are increasing.
Today, the response to the challenges faced by Romania, from a perspective of stability and economic resilience, must be a balanced mix of macroeconomic policies and the implementation of structural reforms, in line with the sustainability requirements.
I am confident that through consistency and professionalism we will find the optimal solutions in terms of monetary policy at the National Bank of Romania, an institute where the watchwords are prudence and predictability. At the same time, in terms of fiscal and budgetary policies, the watchword must be sustainability.
I am committed, with all my strength and skill, to being part of the executive management of the National Bank of Romania, whose mission essential. A sound currency is the basis of a sound economy, and financial stability and price stability are indispensable conditions in the calculated affirmation of economic activities in general.
I am convinced that, through the dedication and responsibility with which I have exercised my professional and institutional duties so far, through the expertise and experience acquired, I will bring real added value to the management of the National Bank of Romania, together with my colleagues on the Board of Directors and the top specialists within the NBR.
I thank the specialized parliamentary committees and the Parliament for their vote of confidence. I would also like to thank my colleagues from the National Liberal Party for the trust they have placed in me, through the unanimous I received to support my candidacy.
