The world is reeling after American conservative, controversial polemicist, Charlie Kirk, was shot fatally at the age of 31.
A close-up video, circulating the internet now, shows the moment in which Kirk, speaking at Utah Valley Uni varsity before approximately 3,000 people, was shot in the carotid artery. People dispersed immediately, running and screaming.
He was hit and killed by a single bullet, which appears to have come from the roof of a building on campus. The killer is still at large, which is unusual for these these kind of events, in which shooters are typically captured on the spot. The manhunt continues.
Kirk was a conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, which describes itself as “an American nonprofit organization that advocates for conservative politics on high school, college, and university campuses”.
An upset Donald Trump described Charlie Kirk as a martyr for truth and freedom.
He credits Kirk for his youth vote. Indeed, he was one of the most vocal voices of the American right, and was in the midst of a “prove-me-wrong”-style debate that he often did when killed.
Horrifyingly, his wife and small children were present as a spurt of blood gushed from Kirk’s neck, his arm involuntarily jerking up.
His personal security took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Many have commented on this act of political violence as the culmination of embittered ideological discrepancy in the USA in recent years.
