Five people have been injured in a stabbing in central Amsterdam.
Unlike the majority of attackers, this suspect was captured alive and taken in for questioning — including regarding motives.
A heroic local resident overpowered the attacker, who is hospitalized with a leg injury.
The stabbings took place in the central Dam Square of Amsterdam. The Royal Palace was cordoned off. An emergency helicopter landed there.
Meanwhile, victims were loaded into ambulances. Among those stabbed are a girl, who had a knife sticking out between her shoulder-blades, and an elderly woman, witnesses say.
Onlookers describe it chillingly: an “icy scream”, followed by general chaos and people running away.
Anyone who happened to take pictures or videos is encouraged to offer the evidence to the police.
