Bucharest public parking, now check through scan system

Bucharest City Hall has started checking parked cars to see if the drivers paid for parking.

The checks are done with the help of cars equipped with cameras connected to specialized software, and the first two such cars are already on the street. If the scanned license plate number does not appear on the screen, the owner is taxed 200 lei on the spot. These are placed on the windshield, but also sent to the owner’s address.

Parking Bucharest has purchased 18 electric Volkswagen cars for this monitoring purpose. Each of these cars will verify 2000 cars per day.
As these scanning systems are installed, so new parking spaces will be opened. The goal is to open 80,000 paid parking spots by spring 2024.
