Romanian authorities say the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus rose to 6,633 with 333 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours.

The Strategic Communications Group said Monday that 318 people had succumbed to the virus.

There are currently 231 patients receiving treatment in intensive care.

Some 24,000 people are in institutionalized quarantine, while 71,300 people are in self-isolation at home.

Romanian health authorities have carried out 67,200 tests for COVID-19.

Almost 400 people are under criminal investigation for concealing information or lying about the virus.

On Sunday, when most Romanians celebrated Palm Sunday, some 9,800 were fined about 22 million lei for violating lockdown rules, which strictly limit where, why and how far people can travel under the state of emergency which was declared on March 16.
