In Romania, coronavirus cases pass 13,500, death count reaches 803

Romanian authorities said the number of COVID-19 cases stood at 13,512 on Monday, and the death count reached 803.

The Strategic Communication Group said 349 new cases had been registered in the last 24 hours.

The total number of tests conducted since the virus outbreak in March is just short of 200,000. Authorities have stepped up COVID-19 tests in the past two weeks.

There are currently 243 patients with the virus in a serious condition who are being treated in intensive care.

Since the virus outbreak, 5,269 patients have recovered, authorities said.

There are 12,830 people in institutionalized quarantine while and 20,000 people are in self-isolation at home.

Romanian authorities ordered a state of emergency in mid-March to contain the spread of the virus. It is expected to end on May 15, but restrictions on public gatherings and people’s movements will remain.
