Romania’s annual inflation rate reached 10.7%, according to data released Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics. Rents are at the top of the price jumps, after energy hikes caused by the war in the Middle East.

The inflation rate was an increase from  9.9% the previous month and in line with  market expectations.

It was the steepest climb since April 2023 and driven mainly by higher costs in non-food goods (12.02% vs 10.89% in March), particularly fuels (15.65% vs 12.93%).

Electricity tariffs increased by a whopping 54.18%, after a scheme for capping electricity prices was scrapped.

Gasoline went up by 22.42%, and diesel, by 32.68%.

The biggest non-fuel hikes in April 2026, compared to April 2025 were rents which soared by 43.78%,

Overall, services increased month on month (13.04% vs 11.05%) while food prices were calmer  (7.39% vs 7.67%).
