A miracle-working icon has been brought to Romania from Ukraine creating a buzz in among believers in one town who flocked to see it.

Dozens of faithful have lined up to touch and pray to the icon which is reported to have given sight to the blind and cured illnesses like cancer, a priest told Antena 3.

It was transported into the John Jacob the Roman church in Sibiu in a ceremony featuring a phalanx of gold-robed priests. It will remain there for nine days.

The Mother of God icon has gold flames emanating from it which represent the Holy Spirit.

It is originally from in Pochaiv, western Ukraine. It is treasured due to belief that God performs miracles through it. It is associated with giving comfort and support in hard times as well as relieving sickness.

It’s a copy of the original icon which is 300 years old and was brought to Romania for the first time ever from Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital.

It’s an almost perfect copy of the original and believers say it has the same miraculous powers.

Ukrainians and Romanians both belong to the Orthodox branch of Christianity.
