Robert Glinta and David Popovici in semifinals of World Swimming Championships Budapest

Romanian swimmer Robert Glinţă qualified on Sunday for the men’s 100m backstroke semifinal of the World Swimming Championships in Budapest, while his fellow national David Popovici advanced to the semis of the 200m freestyle event of the world aquatics competition.

Competing in the sixth 100m backstroke heat, Glinţă finished 13th, clocking in at 53.86 seconds. He is set to race in the first (19:18) or the second semifinal (19:23).

In his first participation as a senior in a World Championship in an Olympic pool, David Popovici managed the fastest men’s 200m freestyle heat time – 1 min 45.18 sec, 0.61 seconds ahead of the second-ranked, South Korean Sunwoo Hwang.

His semifinals are scheduled for Sunday at 20:14 and 20:20.
