Romania posts more than 2,000 Covid-19 cases, 48 deaths

Romania has reported 2,033 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, the highest daily tally in more than four months.

There were 48 Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours including a child. One person in their 30s, another in their 40s and five in their 50s with the virus died.

All but three of the fatalities were patients with underlying health issues such as diabetes, cancer or heart disease.

It was the highest daily figure since April 28. Bucharest posted 314 new cases, and there were 106 infections in the southwestern county of Timis. Some 217 cases were not attributed to any county.

There were 426 patients, including six children, are being treated in intensive care units on Tuesday.

A total of 3,527 Covid-19 patients  are hospitalized across the country, of which 95 are children.
