For a second day running, Romania reported more than 300 new cases of the novel coronavirus.
The Strategic Communication Group said Wednesday that 326 people had tested positive for Covid-19 in the past day, fewer than the previous day.
Romania has recorded a cumulative total of 27,296 cases, of which 20,750 have recovered.
Medical authorities conducted 12,585 tests in the past day, giving a 2.59% rate of infection, the lowest since June 23.
Sixteen people died in the last 24 hours after contracting the virus, taking the total death toll from Covid-19 to 1,667.
There are currently 222 patients being treated for their symptoms in intensive care units, a rise in cases who need round-the- clock treatment and monitoring.
There has been a spike in cases in recent weeks after the Covid-19 lockdown was relaxed and malls, parks and outdoor restaurants reopened.
The government has postponed lifting further restrictions due to the high number of cases. There were plans for restaurants to reopen on Wednesday.
An outbreak was reported at a shipyard in the eastern port of Galati, where 41 people tested positive for the virus in the past eight days. Most of the cases are shipyard employees.
Two children tested positive for Covid-19 at a kindergarten in the northeast city of Iasi, which reopened on June 15. They were hospitalized and are in a good condition. The other e children at the kindergarten and staff have been quarantined, Hotnews quoted local health authorities as saying.
There are currently about 830 people under institutionalized quarantine, while more than 60,300 are isolating at home under medical supervision to stop the spread of the highly contagious virus.
Almost 723,000 tests have been processed nationwide.
