Romania’s Princess Margaret will attend King Charles’ coronation on Saturday at Westminster Abbey, the royal family said Wednesday.

„On Friday, May 5, 2023, at Buckingham Palace, Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Crown, and Her Royal Highness the Prince Consort will take part in the state reception offered by His Majesty King Charles.

“ On Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey (they) will take part in the coronation of the King and Queen Consort,” Romania’s royal family of Romania said in a Facebook post.

More than 2,200 people will attend the coronation, including international representatives from 203 countries as well as community and charity workers, Buckingham Palace said this week.

The congregation will also comprise Nobel Prize winners, religious representatives, and heads of state and foreign ministers, the palace said in a statement.

Charles’ coronation will be smaller in scale than that of his mother Queen Elizabeth in 1953 but still replete with pomp and pageantry, featuring  traditions dating back 1,000 years.

More than 8,200 guests attended Queen Elizabeth’s coronation ceremony, which also took place at Westminster Abbey, according to the royal family’s website. The queen died last September aged 96.

Margaret’s father, the late King Michael, forced to abdicate in 1947 when the communists took control of Romania, was related to the late queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Phillip and was a guest at their wedding a month before he abdicated.

Charles is enamored of Romania, particularly the Transylvania region where he owns property. He started coming to Romania in 1998 and made yearly visits until last year.

He is close to Margaret and her husband, Prince Radu. The Romanian royal family spent several years in Britain after Michael was forced into exile.

Relations between the Royal Family of Romania and the Royal Family of Great Britain “has been constant, based on admiration, affection and respect, both in its official capacity… and in the private family one.”

“It is an enduring bond, stretched over the Nineteenth, XX and XXI centuries, and five generations.”
