Bucharest downpour adds mood to UK-Romanian ‘Diplomacy in Fashion’ event

Bucharest is known for its sudden almost tropical downpours, so it was no surprise that the rain made an appearance at the fashion show of the season: Diplomacy in Fashion.

Curated by Lucie Portman, the wife of the British Ambassador, Giles Portman, the event on June 4 brought together 27 designers, 55 models and 300 guests for a celebration of fashion, friendship and cultural ties between the UK and Romania.

The event, the second of its kind, showcased fashion as a powerful vehicle for cultural exchange between nations.

The rain, which saw people fish out their umbrellas, added unexpected mood to the glamorous event and became part of the story.

But the Diplomacy in Fashion” didn’t  end on a rainy evening in Bucharest. A selection of the creations showcased in Bucharest will travel to London in September for an exhibition at the Romanian Cultural Institute during London Fashion Week.

This will help bring Romanian talent to an international audience.

The British Embassy congratulated Lucie Portman “and all partners involved in bringing this vision to life – and to every designer, model and guest who made the evening unforgettable.”
