PHOTOS | Rolls-Royce Motor Cars purrs back into Romania with new dealership

The very first Rolls-Royce to arrive in Romania was a Silver Ghost in 1912 before the outbreak of World War I. It was delivered to a customer in Bucharest, one Mr. Constantin Turnesco, at a price of £1,364.

In 1927, Romania’s late King Michael, known for his motoring prowess, learned to drive a Rolls-Royce at the tender age of six. The car had belonged to his German-born  grandfather, King Ferdinand.

Luxury brand

Fast forward 112 years and the luxury brand is back in Romania where there is a growing demand for the high-end motor.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars on Thursday announced the appointment of Automobile Bavaria as an official dealer in Romania. The new dealership is to be named Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Bucharest.

The relationship began in 2003 when Rolls-Royce Motor Cars together with Automobile Bavaria, organized the first presentation of a Rolls-Royce model in Romania. Two years later,   Automobile Bavaria set up the first Rolls-Royce showroom at the Bucharest International Auto Show.

“Rolls-Royce embodies individuality and luxury like no other brand, and our motor cars are the ultimate symbol of success, proudly carrying the Spirit of Ecstasy,” said Michael Schmidt, owner of Automobile Bavaria.

“This is the starting point for a new era for Rolls-Royce clients in Romania, we are confident that the Flying Lady points to a bright future in our home country.”

British Ambassador to Romania, Giles Portman, who held a press conference to mark the event said that “the UK’s luxury industry shows continuously increasing levels of investment that is helping to create jobs in Great Britain and around the world.”

As an authorized dealer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Bucharest will have the ability to offer the full range of products and services directly. Clients in Romania will have even greater access to the Rolls-Royce portfolio and services, backed by the outstanding support and commitment that Automobile Bavaria is known for, a press release said.

The sole Rolls-Royce dealer in Romania is committed to a significant investment in an exclusive showroom in Bucharest, planning for the new premises has begun.

Automobile Bavaria was inaugurated as a Rolls-Royce service partner in 2010. The new dealer Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Bucharest forms part of Schmidt Premium Cars, as does Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Munich.

2011      The Rolls-Royce Ghost model is launched in Romania

2012      The Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy Centenary Anniversary Event takes place in Bucharest

2016      The new Rolls-Royce Dawn is presented at the Automobile Bavaria Băneasa showroom

2018      Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII launch in Romania at the Bucharest International Motor Show  Launch of the new Rolls-Royce Cullinan in the presence of H.E. the Ambassador of Great Britain at Bucharest.

2019      Accreditation of the first Rolls-Royce Master Technician in Eastern Europe, Mr. Gelu Voinea.

2021      Presentation of the new generation Rolls-Royce Ghost in Romania.

2022      Launch of the new Rolls-Royce Phantom EWB and the Ghost Black Badge in Romania.

2023      Delivery of the first Rolls-Royce Spectre electric model to a customer in Romania

2024      Signing of the Rolls-Royce dealer contract for Romania at Goodwood.
