Romania added 5,340 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours and 188 deaths, as cases continued to drop but fatalities remained high.
The Strategic Communication Group said about 27,500 tests were carried out and there was a positivity rate of 19.4% which is lower than previous days.
Romania has registered 583,000 cases so far and about 14,500 deaths.
Bucharest posted 1,088 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. Next were the Black Sea Constanta region with 332 new cases, followed by Brasov in central Romania with 314 cases and Ilfov next to the capital which posted 303.
Bucharest and nine counties are in the ‘red scenario’ with more than 3 cases per 1,000 in the past fortnight.
There were 1,270 seriously patients being treated in intensive care units in Friday and 11,710 hospital beds occupied by SARS-CoV-2 patients.
he same report said that around 42,000 people confirmed with the new coronavirus infection are isolated at home, and 11,172 are in institutionalized isolation. Also, 65,264 people are quarantined at home, and 124 are in institutionalized quarantine.
There were 188 Covid-19 related deaths, 121 men and 67 women. Sixteen of them didn’t have any underlying health conditions such as diabetes,heart disease or cancer.
One patient who died was in their 30s, fuve were in their 40s and 16 were in their 50s. The rest were over 60, with 76 deaths occurring in the 70 to 80 age group.
