Romania reports 357 Covid deaths, highest single-day tally

Romania reported another record number of Covid deaths on Friday as the number of cases_ and seriously ill people_ continued to soar.

Some 357 patients died in the last 24 hours. The Strategic Communication Group also added 28 deaths that hadn’t been reported earlier.

Of the whole group, 352 were unvaccinated and 33 were immunized. Only one of the unvaccinated people  that died didn’t have a previous health condition.

Friday’s daily tally of 13,854 cases was the lowest in four days, but still significantly higher than previous weeks. A month ago, as cases started to climb after a period when restrictions were lifted, Romania was posting about 2,000 cases a day.

Now, there are 1,561 patients who are seriously ill and being treated in intensive care wards, including 23 children.

In total 401 minors are hospitalized for treatment out of a total of 15467 patients.

Bucharest has another single-day high of 2,665 cases. Other city areas had hundreds of cases. Iasi in northeast Romania and Cluj in northwest Romania each had about 600 cases.

Timiş in the southwest had 557 cases and the lfov area next to Bucharest had 553.. The Black Sea Constanta region had 458.

Infection rates have soared in the capital and Ilfov to 12 per 1,000 inhabitants. Only three areas in Romania have fewer than three cases per 1,000.
