Summer storms hit most of Romania

Summer storms hit large parts of Romania on Sunday, meteorologists said issuing a yellow warning for heavy rain, thunderstorms and hail.

In some counties, torrential rain could exceed 40 liters per square meters, they said. The warning started at midday and will run until 10 p.m.

The Carpathians, and the southwest area of Oltenia and Muntenia in the south will be most affected by downpours, thunderstorm and hail.

Storms will hit the western counties of Bihor, Cluj and Srada, Sibiu and Arges in central Romania. Prahova in the south, Suceava and Neamt in the north and Buzau in the east.

Cloudy weather and light rain is forecast for other parts of Romania. Rain is expected in the capital and surrounding area in the early evening.

A yellow warning is issued when it is likely that the weather will cause some low level impacts, including some disruption to travel in a few places. It is the lowest warning level.
