Some 200 people gathered Friday outside the government offices in the Romanian capital to protest pandemic restrictions.
They yelled “Freedom!” and told Premier Florin Citu: “Your place is in prison.” Politicians from the far-right Alliance for the Union of all Romanians took part in the protest. They were joined by several anti-vaxxer public figures.
Friday’s demonstration came after Prime Minister Florin Citu decided to introduce a ‘green pass’ for certain events.
Under the new regulations, children over 6 will need a Covid-19 vaccine to go to restaurants, weddings and other events.
The pass will be mandatory in places where the infection rate exceeds 3 per 1,000 inhabitants.
People will have to show it in restaurants, cinemas and at other public events such as sports events, swimming pools clubs and large private events.
The certificate is proof of vaccination, a negative test or recovery from the virus.
Romania has the lowest vaccination rates in the European Union after Bulgaria. Just 27% of Romanians are inoculated against the virus.\
